Hello, and welcome to The Lazy Philosopher!

I am a thirty-something-year-old nonprofit attorney living with my wife, J, and our two sons, G and L, in Washington, D.C. As of November 2019, G is a little over two, while L has only been on this great green earth for five months.

The arrival of G of course wrought a discontinuous change in our lives, changing our existences so much for the better while also leaving us much more tired. For me, one of the most significant changes that has resulted from having children is that it has become much more important to me to figure out how to live life the “right way”. Before we had kids, I felt that if I had a crummy life that was really only of consequence to me. Now I feel that if I live life poorly, neglecting what matters, getting entangled in trivia, then that amounts to conceding that I only expect mediocre lives for my boys, as well. This is not acceptable to me.

So, in these pages, I’ll be documenting my search for generalizable lessons about how one should live life. We’ll draw on religion, philosophy, experience, and logic. I may include other stuff in here that forms a small but practical component of how to live life well, such as a recipe for fresh baked bread.

I am The Lazy Philosopher because for much my life I have been content to idly speculate and hypothesize without trying to put the theories I theorized into practice. One goal of this blog will be to continue Philosophizing but to do so less Lazily. The test of our principles will be in the quality of our lives.
